Frequently Asked Questions
How far away will a remote starter work?
Basic systems reach a few hundred feet, which is enough for a driveway or a parking lot. Long-range two-way systems reach up to a mile in open conditions, which is what you want if you are starting the car from inside a workplace. Systems with a cellular module work from anywhere you have phone service, which in practice means no range limit at all.
Will a remote starter work on a manual transmission?
It can, but it needs a reservation-mode setup and the car must be left in neutral with the parking brake on. Not every vehicle is a safe candidate. We will look at yours and tell you honestly whether we will do it, because we would rather turn down the job than hand back a car that could roll.
Does installing a remote starter void my factory warranty?
No. A properly installed remote start does not void a manufacturer warranty. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act a dealer cannot void your warranty over an aftermarket part unless that part caused the failure. What matters is the quality of the install, which is the argument for having it done by a shop that has been doing it since 2002 rather than the cheapest quote.
How long does a remote start installation take?
Usually three to five hours. Push-to-start and newer vehicles with more integration can take longer. We will tell you before you leave the car.
Can I start my car from my phone?
Yes. Systems with a cellular module let you start, lock, unlock and locate the car from a phone app with no range limit. They run on a subscription, and we will explain what that costs up front rather than surprising you with it later.
When should I get a remote starter installed?
Late summer or early fall. Once the first hard freeze hits, every shop in southeast Wisconsin is booked out, and you end up waiting weeks for the thing that was supposed to save you from scraping the windshield. Installed in September, it is ready when you need it.
Will a remote starter keep my car warm, or just running?
Whatever your climate control was set to when you shut the car off is what it does when it starts. Leave the heat on defrost and the seat heaters on, and that is what you come back to. We set this up with you at handover so it does what you expect the first time.

Push-button cars need a bypass module. What that means for cost, install time and whether yours is a candidate.
